About Us

Our History

Our story starts way back (1989), Nothern Uganda Yumbe District

Lodonga Islamic Centre was founded in 1989 and registered in 1991 as revolutionary Islamic propagation then later Islamic cultural heritage and owned land 121 hectares in 1991 making the Centre the biggest Muslim land lord in the whole of the greater Northern Uganda.

Lodonga Islamic Centre is a visionary institution committed to fostering religious understanding and community development in the West Nile region of Uganda. The proposed project’s first phase includes the construction of the (Isah son of Mary Mosque), designed to challenge misconceptions about Islam and promote religious tolerance. The mosque is set to be a symbol of unity, accommodating 2000 worshippers and featuring essential facilities such as offices, a Muslim converts training center, residences for religious leaders, and a mosque library. The center aims to educate new Muslims about the core principles of Islam, emphasizing responsible citizenship and countering extremism.

In addition to the mosque, Lodonga Islamic Centre envisions a holistic approach to community development, incorporating a multi-specialty hospital, educational institutions, and vocational training centers in subsequent phases. The initiative seeks to establish the first Muslim girls’ secondary school, boys’ college, Islamic institute, teacher training college, and various other educational facilities, emphasizing inclusivity and providing opportunities for Muslims in the region to pursue diverse professions. These efforts align with the center’s commitment to addressing the educational and healthcare needs of the community, fostering economic empowerment, and promoting a spirit of unity and tolerance. Through these endeavors, Lodonga Islamic Centre aspires to create a vibrant and thriving community grounded in Islamic principles.

As we move forward, our commitment extends beyond the immediate community, with plans for an Agricultural Demonstration Centre, workshops for wood, welding, fabrication, and mechanical services in the second and third phases. The fourth phase introduces a commercial building in Kampala Capital City Centre as a WAQF (endowment) to sustain and support the ongoing activities of Lodonga Islamic Centre. Our organization is driven by a vision of unity, inclusivity, and the betterment of society, and we invite support and collaboration to bring this transformative project to fruition.

CHALLENGES OF LODONGA ISLAMIC CENTRE

    1. Lodonga Girls Secondary School closed all the classes from (S.I – S.VI) due to lack of financial support.
    2. Mosque construction not completed. (See the photo attached)
    3. Lack of funders/Donors
    4.  Debts
    5. Inter-religious politics.
    6. Lack of WAQF for Lodonga Islamic Centre.
    7. Jealous and envious.
    8. The loss of our original standard Architectural building plans, Bill of Quantities, Bill of Cost, for all the storeyed proposed buildings in 1992 caused us a huge loss in terms of resources, time, trust, and morale. All happened in the hands of the leadership of the Saudi Arabian-based International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) Kampala office.
